I discovered Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton's animation movie, when I was seven years old. I fell in love with it from the first frame. I only realised a few years later that what actually captivated me about this film is the way they brought to life such original characters. It was around that time when I took my first ever stop motion course in my home town public library. I will never forget the day I went to sign up for it with my mother, as looking back in time, that course would have such a relevance in my future personality and ambitions. From that point on, I have always been extremely interested in all kinds of animation and illustration. I now have, for the first time, the chance of devoting myself full time to something I have been passionate about since I discovered it.
From my early childhood, I have always tried to externalise my keen imagination and creativity in a million different ways. This has definitely not changed at all: I love taking part in activities and take lessons of all kinds of artistic disciplines in my free time. Some of the courses I have attended recently include 3D modelling, serigraphy, fanzines, different styles of drawing, digital art tools, and comic edition amongst others. I always enjoy learning and applying the new techniques to my existing knowledge and capabilities.
I love drawing, photography, cinema, design, reading, modelling... In short, creating. This has always been an advantage when doing group work, as I am able to empathise and help in all the fields involved. This is one of the reasons of my success in the academic field. Furthermore, I love taking the lead, always in a respectful and constructive manner. I consider myself quite good at dealing with conflict and reach agreements easily. This has been put to use throughout my student life, where I have been the link between students and the teaching body when a disagreement arose between them. Based on my experience, I would consider myself a quick learner, with an open mind and always willing to learn and improve in all fields.
A couple of years ago I moved out of my home town to Valencia to study and to grow up as an individual. As a consequence of that and independently of my studies, I took voluntary positions as a designer in two ambitious projects I felt passionate about. First, I joined the Formula Student team at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, one of the top teams on the circuit. My responsibilities there included a broad area of the public marketing and communications duties, such as: poster design, photographer, public relations at events, social media, etc.
Later on I also joined the Roller Derby Valencia team, with which I also take part in various competitions on a regional, national and international level. My job at Roller Derby Valencia involves designing merchandising, posters and leaflets, in addition to deal with providers and sales as a revenue source for the team.
These activities have not kept me off my own personal projects. This last year I attended a few independent artist fairs as a seller. My products included a large number of illustrations and various items developed and handcrafted by me. I am slowly building a significant base of customers, and I expect to be able to keep doing it and improve along the way.
In conclusion, my main target is to keep growing as a person and an artist, and see what the future holds for me. I am absolutely convinced that studying the Illustration & Animation degree will help me find my path and achieve my full potential.
